IDEO~ so cool!!

23rd Nov 2010, We had a very challenged and interesting task which was interviewing at least three design companies around Clerkenwell area. Suprise me that most of the design studios are hidden in those old apartments and alleys. Like IDEO...which is a world well famous design competition like Reddot and IF design. It located in a small and disappearance alley which most of the rush people will just path through and not realize. So, what it attracted me to go in to that scary alley is it's big light decoration in the building. I really like it's name card design and paper material. The paper material is a rough texture like weave cloth. And what I like is it's color collection and simple, clean, and clear layout.

TUBE MAP ART!

I have never paied attention on the Tube Map cover before until the other day when I was catching the tube at St. James's Park station. There is an art collection of the Tube Map Cover at the St. James's Park tube station. What makes me come to London to study art is because that London is the greatest city full of art everywhere. You can always find some little things, arts and surprises in every daily life. This is what I like about London. :)

Have you ever seen "Big Fish"? Big Fish = "Everything"

I remember around 7 years ago when I was 18...WoW I was young! There was a movie called "Big Fish". It is a movie about a guy's bizarre adventure...he met a lot of weird peolpe like a GIANT man, little MAN, a girl with two heads, people from circus...etc. And a very interesting ending that he became a BIG FISH swimming in to a pond and gone.

I can't totally understand the movie but amazingly it has clearly kept in my mind. Maybe under my consciousness, I would like to have this kind of adventure or I wish to meet all these people reality ...Well, If you are really interested in "Big Fish", why not have a look of "The Museum of Everthing"? It shows a very absorbing collection of real circus people with Giant Man, Little Man, Lady with two heads, Lady with beard...etc from Mr. Peter Blake (British greatest living artist) interest.

The museum open every Wednesday to Sunday, 10:30am to 6:30pm. Admission is free, as is tea, coffee and use of the loos wrote on it's brochure. The museum located on the corner of Regents Park Road and Sharpleshall Street in Primrose Hill, London NW1 (You can catch the Nourthern Line Tube to Chalk Farm Station and walk there.) Or futher information, please visit http://www.musevery.com/.

The Narrative Workshop...cut and paste...paste and cut...

It has been two weeks now...and we have already done three classes with cut and paste, paste and cut to create an image, a graphic, a meaning and a topic etc. I guess newspaper is the quickest way to manipulate an image, a topic, a thought or a meaning to create a new look of graphic.

Today 15 Oct 2010, We had the Narrative Workshop...and yes the same...we are doing the cut and paste, paste and cut thing again...but with the different method. What is "Narrative"? I have looked on the dictionary which it says..."story, art of narrating". Very interesting... So today we are learning how to re-form the story by changing it's topic and images. And the different technique to tell a story by only graphic like, comic book, but without the typing. Also there is a task to zoom in or zoom out the image to create a new fresh look of it.

The most interesting task to me is the telling story by three graphics. There are six topics for the task..."Moment to Moment"..."Action to Action"... "Subject to Subject"..."Scene to Scene"..."Aspect to Aspect" and "Non-Sequitor". And the reason that I like it the most, is the task really shows everyone's creativity and imagination. As the photos...

Talent or hard working?

13 Oct 2010, Today is a shocking also inspiration day for me from PPD class. I don't know how to express my feeling which combine the excitement, depress, adoring, jealous, motive and pressure etc in the same time.

Our Professor Catherine invited two senior students who achieved the distinction from our course last year to give us a talk and sharing experience here in LCC. They really did a damn good job professionaly. Nic the senior student whom I really impress a lot mention today...How he has done the distinction job? You need to push yourself, go to the Library, do a lot of research, think a lot and work really hard. Nic is just the same as us didn't have much experience in Graphic Design before. He was studying Fine Art back then. I guess he gots the talent in art but also he works really hard to push himself sucess today. Here to attached his blog http://peckedclean.wordpress.com/ which has created professionaly as well.

For my future goal, I am really wishing and pushing myself to achieve the same level as Nic. Go Go Go Minna! Be active and work hard!!

Also attached the photos of us during the class and the LCC.

I got a big headache...in Image Class...What happen?

Yesterday we had our Image Class and I had an unbelievable big headache. I had never feel that stress ever since I came to London. I thought western people are angles that you don't cut people's time off. Not like devil Asian...hurry hurry hurry...there is no time for you to think.

Before I came to London, I was working in a blister packaging company. My highest record is to draw five drawings in a day. That equally 1.5 hrs for a drawing which including product measurement, appearance decision, 2D structure drawing and sometimes with the 3D. There is no time to think about how good will it looks like or the marketing. Only draw draw draw. That is a bit pitty for the Taiwanese young designer and our environment. I don't know is it the same here? But obviously I got the same feeling yesterday in the Image Class.

Above photo was the most stressful activity which made me headache and slanged a lot. But as you can see my improvement from right to left. We need to create five post cards from right to left which included five elements, four elements continue to only one element in 30 minutes. During the process you need to concern it's image, meaning, structure, blank space, coordinate, humor, theme and time management etc. There was no time to think only intuition. Although I had a big headache, but it was a really good process for us to learn the reality...as Darren said, there was no time for you to think, sometime you need to create an image in five minutes to discuss with the client. : )

Attached some other great designs from my classmates.

During the class...It has taken before the process...afterward...like a WAR!
